North Dakota Rodeos by City

North Dakota

Rodeo season in North Dakota runs March through October. Rodeos have a long history in North Dakota, so you can have the small town rodeo experience or see a bigger, professional rodeo.

North Dakota Winter Show

Travel to Valley City in March to see a ranch rodeo and a PRCA rodeo. Teams of cowboys and cowgirls compete doing ranch tasks in ranch rodeos. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctions rodeos and organizes finals every year.

In addition to the rodeos, you can see a truck and tractor pull, compete in a chili cookoff and other cooking contests.

The North Dakota Winter Show is North Dakota’s oldest and longest-running agriculture show and draws people from several states and Canada.

Mandan Rodeo

Originally started in 1879 as a baseball game and pony races, the Mandan Rodeo has become a tradition. It officially became the Mandan Roundup in 1923. The PRCA and WPRA sanction it.

The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association focuses on women’s sports in rodeo. It sanctions rodeos and organizes finals each year.

At the Mandan Rodeo, you’ll see typical rodeo events – roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.

You can also sign your kids up to participate in the Remarkable Kids Rodeo, open to all kids with a physical, mental, or emotional need.

The Mandan Rodeo also runs a food drive for the local community called CRAM-A-RAM.

Rodeo Minot

Held every March and April, Rodeo Minot offers bull riding, rough riding, and an NDRA Rodeo. The North Dakota Rodeo Association sanctions rodeos in North Dakota.

You’ll also enjoy afterparties at a local bar.

Rodeo Minot is the second largest event at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, and provides an economic boost to the local economy. It also donates to several local charities to support 4-H, FFA, and more.

Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo

If you miss Rodeo Minot, you can catch the Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo in October. Held on the same grounds, you’ll see breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing, and more. In addition to watching rodeo competitions, you can walk around a tradeshow, enjoy a social, and attend Cowboy Church.

Killdeer Mountain Roundup Rodeo

In July, the Killdeer Saddle Club organizes a PRCA-sanctioned rodeo. This Killdeer tradition goes back to 1923. You’ll experience all of the classic rodeo events when you attend this rodeo.

The Killdeer Saddle Club also organizes the Killdeer Mountain Roundup Youth Rodeo in August.

North Dakota Rodeo Associations

North Dakota has several rodeo associations that work to support rodeo traditions and pass them on to the next generation: North Dakota Rodeo Association (NDRA), North Dakota High School Rodeo Association (NDHSRA), and North Dakota Junior High Rodeo Division (NDJHRD).
